Emotional Intelligence in Forensic Expertise: Reducing Bias, Preventing Burnout, Strengthening Clarity

Abstract

Forensic expertise operates where facts, law, and human judgment intersect. In that space, emotional and cognitive biases can quietly distort observations, interpretations and conclusions—especially under time pressure, moral responsibility, or public scrutiny. Drawing on two decades of fieldwork in high-conflict environments, this talk presents a practical framework for integrating Emotional Intelligence (EI) into forensic practice to safeguard objectivity, strengthen resilience, and ensure reliable decision-making.
